Heart Failure Accreditation: January 28, 2017
It’s comforting when you know what to expect, especially when it comes to your health. All four hospitals at Lee Health were recently awarded for their consistency and quality in treating patients with heart failure.
Melissa Benson, a cardiovascular care specialist with Lee Health, says Lee Health was recently acknowledged by the society of cardiovascular patient care. “The heart failure accreditation is given to us by the society of cardiovascular patient care which is an accreditation that is committed to the improvement of cardiovascular patient care across the world.”
Last year, Lee Health reached out to the organization to have their heart failure treatment services examined. “We willingly went into this as a system. It meant that if one hospital failed the accreditation, all hospitals failed. So what was unique about this opportunity is we wanted to standardize our processes across the system,” said Benson.
What this accreditation means to the community is patients with heart failure will receive the same care across the system, regardless of which of the four hospitals they are taken to. “We’re seeking what works for the patient. We’re seeking out a replication of success that’s worldwide,” said Benson.
The system is reevaluated every three years to make sure they continue to meet the accreditation standards.
Bottom line - if you’re going away for the holidays, don’t leave your safety precautions at home.
