Closer Care for Kids: March 25, 2017
In its first few months, the new pediatric urgent care facility is Naples has served hundreds of children. From fevers to falls, the new location is bringing medical care closer to families.
Golisano Children’s Hospital Chief Administrative Officer Kathy Bridge-Liles says it’s the first and only facility in the area for children. “That is so wonderful for the children in that community. The pediatric subspecialists, all the specialists that care for children with special medical needs are there in that facility so you’re not having to travel to Lee County. For urgent care their only options were either the Emergency Department in Collier County or the Emergency Department in Lee County. But now they are able to go to an urgent care center where they have shorter waits, they are able to get the care they need.”
It offers more than an urgent care. Pediatric specialists like cardiologists, sleep medicine, and oncologists are also available to examine, diagnose, and treat children. “We have pediatric gastroenterology, so children that have GI problems, belly problems, pulmonology, we have sleep medicine, we have hematology, oncology, we have cardiology, and a whole array of other specialists that will be there every month,” said Liles.
The new location is a partnership between Miami Children’s System and Golisano Children’s Hospital. It’s a project organizers say was a long time coming. “These folks have been coming from Miami and serving these kids here for decades. We began to see the need for more children’s services here,” said Dr. Narendra Kini, CEO of Miami Children’s System.
Caring for sick and injured children every day, the new facility is already proving to be an asset to the community.
