It’s a destination to improve your health and wellness. “We’ve created a facility where you can come anytime, you don’t have to be sick, you don’t need a physician appointment, and you don’t need to be picking up a med or getting a test result,” said Carrie Bloemers, manager of Healthy Life Center-Coconut Point.
Inside the Lee Health Coconut Point, the Healthy Life Center focuses on education and prevention. “For education, we bring in the physicians and health experts in their field to really talk and present to the community to focus on health and wellness as well as preventing chronic disease,” said Bloemers.
In addition to presentations, it’also has a demonstration kitchen. “We’ve been able to offer culinary-based nutrition education by a registered dietitian, so the community gets to experience hands-on classes as well as demos where they are provided recipes and tastings of the fresh ingredients and healthy recipes,” she said.
And just down the hall, health experts offer classes like yoga, tai chi, and Pilates—as well as a variety of support groups. “We have our fourth-trimester club, a support group for new moms and babies. We do different support groups for adults, might be related to memory or dementia, vestibular or balance issues as well,” Bloemers said.
Outside there’s a teaching garden and walking path designed to help people focus on their physical health. “We do know that there are compliments to modern western medicine and we can offer those services on-site, including acupuncture and massage therapy,” she said.
