Lee Memorial Hospital/HealthPark Medical Center Ranked #14 in Florida
(Fort Myers, Fla. – Aug. 15, 2017) --- Lee Memorial Hospital and HealthPark Medical Center earned recognition as a 2017 Best Regional Hospital, ranking #14 in Florida by U.S. News & World Report. The two hospitals (combined) earned “High Performance” ratings in five medical procedures and conditions, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), heart failure, hip replacement, knee replacement and lung cancer surgery. Cape Coral Hospital and Gulf Coast Medical Center earned “High Performance” ratings in COPD and heart failure.
The annual U.S. News Best Hospitals analysis reviews hospitals' performance in clinical specialties, procedures and conditions. Scores are based on several factors, including survival, patient safety, nurse staffing and more. Hospitals are ranked nationally in specialties from cancer to urology and rated in common procedures and conditions, such as heart bypass surgery, hip and knee replacement and COPD. Hospitals are also ranked regionally within states and major metro areas.
“Lee Health’s vision is to inspire hope and be a national leader for the advancement of health and healing; this recognition from U.S. News & World Report is an endorsement that we are moving toward our ideal future where we continuously provide the highest quality, leading-edge, collaborative, patient-centered care,” explains Larry Antonucci, M.D., MBA, Lee Health President & CEO. “As we continue to transform our processes and care delivery, we will look to these ‘High Performing’ departments, services, programs and facilities for ideas and inspiration.”
The annual ratings in procedures and conditions focus on Medicare patients. U.S. News profiles and evaluates every hospital in the American Hospital Association's Annual Survey Database. In 2017, U.S. News evaluated data on nearly 5,000 hospitals in 16 adult specialties, nine adult procedures and conditions, and 10 pediatric specialties. Only 10% to 21% of hospitals were rated ‘High Performing’ in each of the specialties, procedures and conditions evaluated; fewer than 30% earned even a single ‘High Performing’ rating. Hospitals that do well in multiple areas of adult care, like Lee Memorial Hospital/HealthPark Medical Center, may be ranked in their state and metropolitan area. More than 250 hospitals were evaluated in Florida.
