Healthy Lee Challenges Community to Log 1 Million Miles

Register to Participate, Set Your Goal, Get Moving and Log Your Miles

(Fort Myers, Fla. – Dec. 19, 2016) --- Can Lee County residents collectively log 1,000,000 miles in less than three months? Healthy Lee—the community collaboration comprised of local business, health, school, government, religious and community organizations focused on building a healthier Lee County, says “yes!” Following the success of the inaugural Million Mile Movement’s goal of creating awareness, we know we can reach one million miles. The community-wide journey to better health runs Jan. 9-March 31. Participation in the free challenge is open to teams and individuals of all ages and fitness levels.

During the challenge, participants can log their daily exercise on the Million Mile Movement Challenge Portal, located at and powered by Fit Nation. The easy-to-use website allows participants to track their physical activity, such as walking, running, biking and swimming, to reach the million mile goal. The website also offers a Movement Converter Tool to help translate a variety of healthy activities into miles. All participants are encouraged to invite friends, family members, neighbors and co-workers to join in and track their progress “in step” with other challengers. All participants will receive a weekly email newsletter with health tips and motivation throughout the 12-week challenge.

“The Million Mile Movement is a great opportunity to unify our community, and offers a free, easy way for everyone in the community, from gated communities, neighborhoods, clubs, businesses, churches and families to participate,” says Robbie Roepstorff, Healthy Lee chair and president of Edison National Bank.

“This year, the timing of the challenge at the start of the new year, might be just what we all need to set a healthy goal, and to find the support and motivation to keep and reach it,” says Christin Collins, health and wellness business partner for Lee Health and Million Mile Movement co-chair. Collins and Ben Siegel, deputy executive director of Lee County Port Authority, are leading the challenge this year.

Registration is now under way. For those who participated last year, your registration automatically renews. Please login to update your profile (e.g., address, business or team changes), and begin logging Jan. 9. For more information or to register to participate, visit In addition to registration and movement tracking, also offers healthy lifestyle tips for businesses, families and children, including recipes, wellness tools and a community event calendar for healthy events taking place in Lee County.

“Activity is such an important component of a healthy life—it is good for our brains and overall well-being,” says Jim Nathan, founding partner of Healthy Lee and president of Lee Health. “The Million Mile Movement is an innovative, fun, inclusive way to empower all of us to move more. We are excited to step up to the challenge to log 1,000,000 miles.”
