Trauma Center Hosts Survivors Support Group

Support Group Helps Those Affected by Trauma Navigate Recovery

(Fort Myers, Fla. – Feb. 13, 2017) --- Trauma, by its very nature, is sudden, unexpected and often life-changing for victims and their families. A traumatic accident can leave a patient with serious injuries to his or her spinal cord or brain, or he or she may even lose a limb. These injuries, along with the emotional and psychological side effects of a traumatic injury affect the entire family. Lee Health’s regional Trauma Center offers the Survivors Support Group to assist patients and families as they navigate recovery from trauma.

“The support group offers survivors, family members and caregivers the opportunity to meet and connect with others who have experienced traumatic injuries,” explains Shannon Bradley, medical social worker and trauma outreach coordinator. “Life changes after a traumatic injury, and it helps knowing people are there who understand and have also experienced similar fears, anxieties, pain and feelings of loss.”

The Survivors Support Group is open to anyone whose life has been affected by trauma. This month’s meeting will be held Feb. 21, 6-7:30 p.m. in the Medical Staff Conference Room at Lee Memorial Hospital. Moving forward, the group will meet at the same time and location, but on the second Tuesday of each month.
