Nearly 87,000 Miles Logged in Lee County in Just Two Weeks

Healthy Lee’s Million Mile Movement Taking Steps Toward Better Health

(Fort Myers, Fla. – Jan. 25, 2017) --- Just two weeks after the kickoff of Healthy Lee’s Million Mile Movement, more than 86,000 miles have already been logged by participants enrolled to help reach the goal. During the kickoff Jan. 9, Healthy Lee – Lee County’s community collaborative focused on improving the overall health and well-being of our community – issued a challenge to the community to move 1,000 miles by March 31. Major sponsors of the challenge announced their team goals at the kickoff, held at Around the Clock Fitness in Fort Myers, and then began logging miles on treadmills during the event. Other businesses and organizations stepped up to the challenge and pledged team goals as well.

In total, 285,000 miles were ‘pledged’ by the sponsors, and other supporters attending the event. Here’s a breakdown of the pledges in miles:

Healthy Lee Chairman Robbie Roepstorff, president of Edison National Bank, issued the challenge to the community. She was joined by Million Mile Movement co-chairs Ben Siegel, deputy executive director– administration for Lee County Port Authority, and Christin Collins, system health and wellness business partner for Lee Health.

Healthy Lee promotes every aspect of healthy living, from exercise opportunities to eating right and cultivating mental health, for every resident. “By bringing best practices to Lee County, we are working to create a culture of healthy lifestyles and improve Southwest Florida’s overall quality of life,” Roepstorff says. “The Million Mile Movement challenge is a fun way to encourage employees, families, friends and neighbors to get moving toward better health.”

The Million Mile Movement challenge is free and open to all Lee County residents—of all ages and fitness levels. Visit to register as an individual or create a team with your family, friends and co-workers. All participants will receive a weekly email newsletter with health tips and motivation throughout the 12-week challenge. If you participated last year, your registration automatically renews.
