Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida Seeks Volunteers for Key Roles
New Facility Ribbon-Cutting and Open House Set for Jan. 12
(Fort Myers, Fla. – Jan. 9, 2017) --- The construction is nearly complete on the brand-new, state-of-the-art Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. As the final preparations are made for the grand opening in the spring, leadership and staff are looking for volunteers to fill important roles.
“We are looking for volunteers who love helping others, serving and giving back to those in need,” explains Prisca Asaro, supervisor, Volunteer Resources at Golisano Children’s Hospital. “We are accepting applications for several positions, but our first priority is filling the Sunshine Ambassador roles.”
In this role, volunteers brighten the day of patients and visitors and help them navigate the hospital. Volunteers will be trained on the patient database system in order to provide information to visitors. They will share information on resources available within the hospital and our community. As an escort for visitors, this is an active position that requires a significant amount of walking. Sunshine Ambassadors will be expected to maintain excellent customer service skills, and be pleasant and helpful. This role is instrumental in promoting a healthy, healing and happy experience for everyone who comes to Golisano Children’s Hospital.
Forty-two Sunshine Ambassadors will be stationed on each of the seven floors. There will be three shifts each day, including 8 a.m.-noon, noon-4 p.m., and 4-8 p.m., seven days a week. Golisano Children’s Hospital is looking for approximately 300 Sunshine Ambassadors. To serve in this role, volunteers must be year-round residents committed to one four-hour shift per week. Other volunteer opportunities are also available.
To become a volunteer at Golisano Children’s Hospital, go to www.LeeHealth.org/volunteer/index.asp and submit an application. Upon completion of your application, you will be scheduled to attend a three-hour orientation class. In addition, volunteers are required to complete a two-step tuberculosis test and blood work, be vaccinated for the flu and purchase a uniform shirt.
