Chazal Earns National Award from American College of Cardiology

Dr. Richard Chazal Receives 2017 Master of the ACC Award

(Fort Myers, Fla. – March 14, 2017) --- Richard Chazal, M.D., FACC, cardiologist with Lee Physician Group, has been named a recipient of the Master of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Award in honor of his contributions to the cardiovascular profession. Dr. Chazal will be honored, along with all of the 2017 Distinguished Award winners, on March 19 at the Convocation Ceremony during the American College of Cardiology’s 66th Annual Scientific Session in Washington, D.C. Recipients are nominated by their peers and then selected by the ACC Awards Committee.

The Master of the ACC Award recognizes and honors Fellows of the ACC who have consistently contributed to the goals and programs of the College and who have provided leadership in important College activities. To earn this distinction, one must have been a member of the College for at least 15 years and must have served with distinction and provided leadership on various College programs and committees. Dr. Chazal has served as councilor, treasurer and president of the Florida Chapter of the ACC. He also has served as president and governor for the Florida Chapter; and he was elected chair of the ACC Board of Governors. Nationally, Dr. Chazal is currently serving as president of the ACC Board of Trustees, and has been a member and/or chair of more than 50 committees and workgroups.

Dr. Chazal has practiced clinical cardiology in Fort Myers since 1983, focusing on echocardiography, diagnostic catheterization and coronary CT angiography. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida and his medical degree from the University of South Florida. He completed an internal medicine residency at the University of South Florida and a cardiovascular diseases fellowship at the Indiana University School of Medicine, which also included a one-year fellowship in echocardiography. Dr. Chazal is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and echocardiography. He is currently the Medical Director of the Lee Health Heart and Vascular Institute.
