Lee Memorial Auxiliary Donates $375,000 to Pediatric Behavioral Health Initiative of Golisano Children’s Hospital
(Fort Myers, Fla. – Mar. 28, 2017) --- As one more example of their commitment to children in our community, the Lee Memorial Auxiliary Board of Directors has voted unanimously for the Auxiliary to donate $375,000 to the pediatric behavioral health initiative of the Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. This brings the Auxiliary’s total donations to the children’s hospital to well over $1.1 million just within the last five years.
According to Golisano Children’s Hospital Medical Director Emad Salman, M.D., the statistics of adolescent and teen depression and suicide are staggering. Southwest Florida in particular has a critical lack of mental health access, programs, and services for our kids. Dr. Salman is spearheading a community effort in our five-county area to develop a comprehensive program to address these needs.
“We always have been a champion of the physical health of our pediatric patients and now, with the opening of the new Golisano Children’s Hospital, we are excited for this opportunity to help address their mental health,” Lee Memorial Auxiliary President Jim Andrews explains. “The Auxiliary has donated over $8.2 million through the years for programs, projects, and technology to benefit the patients of Lee Health and our community. When we heard Dr. Salman speak about the critical need for mental health services for our children, we jumped on this new opportunity to help lessen the hopelessness, suffering, or stress of affected children. ”
The Lee Memorial Auxiliary supports Lee Health and Southwest Florida through volunteering and fundraising. If you are interested in becoming a member, please contact Jim Andrews at 239-415-8539 or email@example.com.
