Dr. Lacagnina Elected to National Lifestyle Medicine Board
(Fort Myers, Fla. – Nov. 7, 2017) --- Sal Lacagnina, D.O., Lee Health System Medical Director, Wellness & Employee Health, has been elected as an at-large member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) Board of Directors. Dr. Lacagnina will serve a three-year term on the board. Lifestyle Medicine involves the use of evidence-based interventions, such as a predominantly whole food, plant-based diet; exercise; sleep; stress management; alcohol moderation and tobacco cessation; and other non-drug modalities. These therapeutic approaches are used to prevent, treat, and, oftentimes, reverse the lifestyle-related, chronic diseases that are all too prevalent today. Board certification in Lifestyle Medicine is available through ACLM.
"We're fortunate to have someone of Dr. Lacagnina's caliber as a newly-elected member of our Board of Directors," said ACLM Executive Director Susan Benigas. "Dr. Sal is known nationally to be on the leading-edge of what is considered by many to be the future of true 'health' care, where lifestyle medicine is recognized as a first treatment option. The trailblazing work he has done at Lee Health, which has served as a catalyst for transformation within the entire system, is truly inspiring. I know he'll bring this kind of energy and vision to ACLM's leadership."
Dr. Lacagnina shares his passion for Lifestyle Medicine locally through several outlets – authoring articles in local publications, presenting at numerous health care forums and hosting leading Lifestyle Medicine experts in Lee Health’s National Speakers Series. “I believe I can be a significant contributor on a team of professionals who truly are changing the world as they work to create a paradigm shift in how health care is delivered,” Dr. Lacagnina says.
About The American College of Lifestyle Medicine
ACLM is the physician-led professional medical association for clinicians dedicated to the advancement and clinical practice of Lifestyle Medicine as the foundation of a transformed and sustainable healthcare system. More than a professional association, ACLM is a galvanizing force for change. ACLM addresses the need for quality education and certification, supporting its members in their individual practices and in their collective desire to domestically and globally promote Lifestyle Medicine as the first treatment option, as opposed to a first option of treating symptoms and consequences with expensive, ever-increasing quantities of pills and procedures. ACLM members are united in their desire to identify and eradicate the cause of disease. For more information, visit http://www.LifestyleMedicine.org.
