Top Five Reasons to give to United Way

  • One contribution to the United Way campaign means you are helping support more than 245 programs in 82 local partner agencies and initiatives that assist our friends, neighbors, family and co-workers.
  • United Way dollars remain local, helping people in our community.
  • Last year, United Way agencies provided service to more than 300,000 people throughout our community. That’s about 1 in every 2 people!
  • Extensive volunteer involvement allows the United Way to keep fundraising costs extremely low.
  • Community volunteers evaluate agency performance and thoroughly study agency budgets to make sure United Way dollars are spent efficiently and with impact.

Did you know

  • United Way assisted over 159 Lee Health employees in 2018 and 98 of those received financial assistance.
  • United Way runs the Lee Health Employee Assistance Fund, which distributed $24,998 in funding to Lee Health families in need in 2018.
  • If you or someone you know is in need of assistance, dial 2-1-1 to be connected with a United Way representative who will provide free information and referrals to human/social service agencies in Lee, Hendry, Glades, and Okeechobee counties. In 2018, the United Way 211 hotline fielded over 59,064 phone calls.
  • United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program allows residents who earn a household income of $66,000 or less to have their federal tax returns prepared, e- filed and direct deposited for FREE. United Way IRS-certified volunteers who are passionate about taxes will prepare your return and determine if you are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and/or Childcare Credits when you file. In 2019, over 5,546 tax returns were filed through this program, bringing in over $7.4 million in returns!
  • Mission United is a Community Collaboration that uses the existing United Way 211 comprehensive Information and Referral program to serve as a central contact for Veterans to access needed community support. In 2018 Mission United served 1,634 veterans, active duty military, and their families.
  • In 2018, We Care provided over 3,954 hours of free care and served over 930 uninsured patients.
  • In 2018, Project Dentist Care served 1,537 patients and provided 776 hours of free care.
