It’s Nurses Week and Hospital Week!

Each year, from May 6-12, we celebrate National Nurses Week. During this special week, we recognize our nurses and express our appreciation for the selfless care, compassion and expertise they bring to their profession every day and night. At Lee Health, nurses are not just the largest segment of our workforce; they are the heart of our organization and critical to us delivering the right care at the right time and place.

As a former practicing obstetrician/gynecologist and a Lee Health Medical Staff member for more than 40 years, I have worked with many exceptional nurses. I have always valued the relationships—the trust and camaraderie—I built with the nurses I worked with. Now, as Lee Health’s president & CEO, I am incredibly appreciative of the thousands of nurses who choose to pursue their calling here.

Lee Health is committed to strengthening and enhancing nursing practice and governance through shared decision-making, empowerment and ensuring the voices of our nurses are heard and responded to in meaningful ways. We focus on shared governance so that we can demonstrate leadership at every level. We want to be the health system of choice for nurses to grow in their careers. If you are interested in learning more about nursing opportunities at Lee Health, I invite you to visit www.leehealthnursingcareers.org.

From May 12-18, we will also celebrate National Hospital Week, which recognizes the collective work of all the people who contribute to the smooth operations of our hospitals. Our hospital teams include many dedicated folks, like doctors, therapists, food service workers, housekeeping and plant operations, transporters, volunteers and administrators, among others, whose talents ensure the round-the-clock availability of the leading-edge, high-quality, compassionate care our community needs and deserves. If you or someone you know wants to join our exceptional hospital teams, check out jobs.leehealth.org  for opportunities.

Thank you to all our nurses and everyone on our hospital teams for their dedication, compassion and unwavering commitment to caring for and serving others every day and night.
