Living with chronic pain conditions, like arthritis, fibromyalgia, back pain or headaches, can interfere with daily life, making work, socializing or even taking care of yourself difficult. If you are living with chronic pain, Lee Health offers the “It’s All About You Chronic Pain Self-Management Program,” which empowers those with chronic pain to improve their quality of life. This research-based program with the Self-Management Resource Center (SMRC) meets once a week for six weeks and is offered free of charge.
There are several tools you will learn through this program, including:
- The importance of physical activity, which can help decrease your pain.
- Pacing and planning so you don’t overdo or underdo activities.
- Positive thinking and guided imagery.
- How to recognize and manage symptoms of stress, pain and fatigue.
- Strategies to help you get more restful sleep.
- General healthy eating principles and foods that help to decrease inflammation and pain.
- Medication management.
The workshop sessions are held at various times and locations throughout our community. The next six weeks of sessions will be held on Fridays beginning on Nov. 3. The sessions will run from 9-11:30 a.m. at the Heights Center, 15570 Hagie Drive in Fort Myers. If you would like more information or to register to participate in this program, call 239-424-3121.
