Lee Health recently hosted a groundbreaking event for the new Fort Myers campus. Community leaders, healthcare professionals, other stakeholders and partners, and residents from surrounding neighborhoods gathered for the ceremonial beginning of construction for the new, state-of-the-art Lee Health Fort Myers campus at the intersection of Colonial and Challenger Boulevards.

The 53-acre site represents a major investment in our community’s health and future and is further proof of Lee Health’s commitment to meeting the growing needs of Southwest Florida. We know the new campus will meet the highest standards of innovation and resilience and help ensure our residents and visitors have access to world-class medical care for generations.

Designed to serve as a healthcare destination, the campus will include:

  • An acute care hospital with up to 168 beds, including 24 intensive care unit beds, a 44-bed emergency department and 10 inpatient operating rooms.
  • A Medical Office Building with eight state-of-the-art operating rooms that will be home to the Lee Health Musculoskeletal Institute.
  • More than 400,000 square feet of hospital space, 125,000 square feet of medical office and ambulatory surgery space and an 18,000-square-foot central energy plant.

Innovative “Connected Care” rooms will enhance patient engagement by integrating smart technology for scheduling, clinical support and personalized care experiences.

In addition to the excitement and anticipation of the new campus, we are proud that the phased development of Lee Health Fort Myers will also help create jobs and stimulate economic growth in our community. We appreciate the collective effort of local leaders, healthcare professionals and residents in shaping the future of care in Southwest Florida, and we look forward to watching this campus come to life.

Until the new hospital is fully operational, Lee Memorial Hospital will continue to provide essential services, including emergency care, inpatient beds and surgical services. We will communicate more about the future of that facility as we have more information.
