Event Supports Expansion of the Lee Health Cancer Institute
Earlier this year, Lee Health Coconut Point hosted the inaugural Pedal for a Purpose to support the expansion of the Lee Health Cancer Institute in South Lee County. The pedal-a-thon event – led by instructors from CycleBar – raised money for the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Cancer Clinic at the Bonita Health Center at Coconut Point, which will open later this year.
This expansion is important for our community as it addresses the need for access and convenience. Rapid volume growth at the infusion center at the Lee Health Regional Cancer Center over the past two years has that center close to functional capacity. The center also isn’t as convenient for our patients from South Lee and Collier counties. With a 32-chair infusion center, four individual treatment rooms and 12 exam rooms, the new South Lee County cancer clinic will provide the state-of-the-art, compassionate, exceptional cancer care closer to home that our patients want, need and deserve.
My wife, Becky, and I participated in the first Pedal for a Purpose event. We enjoyed a great workout on the spin bike and loved seeing the costumes and the friendly competition. To support and celebrate the upcoming opening of the expansion, CycleBar is hosting a luau-style in-studio charity ride on Saturday, July 29. There are two ride times available: 8 a.m. and 9 a.m.
Pick out your luau outfit and join the fun for this in-studio bicycle ride. All proceeds support cancer care through the Lee Health Cancer Institute and community health and wellness education in early disease detection, chronic disease management and healthy lifestyles. Visit www.cyclebar.com/location/south-fort-myers, check the schedule for July 29, and look for the Lee Health Cancer Institute 8 a.m., or 9 a.m., rides and reserve your spot. Enjoy this ride and plan to join the 2nd Annual Pedal for a Purpose relay-style cycle event in January 2024.
