At Lee Health, our mission is to be a trusted partner, empowering healthier lives through care and compassion. One way we put our mission into motion is through our Patient and Family Advisory Councils (PFACs), which enable us to partner with patients and their families to gain valuable feedback and improve the quality of care and experiences at Lee Health.

Those who choose to join a PFAC as a patient and family advisor are people who:

  • Want to improve quality, safety and the experience Lee Health provides patients in our community.
  • Are willing and able to volunteer their time to provide feedback based on their own experiences as a patient or family member of a patient.
  • Help us plan changes to improve how we care for patients and families.

Patient and family advisors do not need to have any special qualifications – just an openness to share their experience and a willingness to help us identify ways we can improve.

PFAC members may be asked to review or create materials like forms, health information handouts and discharge instructions. The advisors' help in this regard allows us to ensure materials are easier for patients and family members to understand and use. Advisors may also be asked to work on short-term projects, like helping us plan and design a family resource room.

At Lee Health, we have three PFACs – one for Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, one for the Lee Health Cancer Institute (Regional Cancer Center) and one for Lee Health as a whole. We ask that our PFAC members are willing to serve for one to two years, and the typical time commitment is usually at least one hour, but not more than four hours per month.

We recognize that our patients and their family members are integral, knowledgeable and insightful members of the care team, which is why we invite them to share their unique perspectives through the PFAC.
