I missed sharing this column last week, which was National Volunteer Week, but I wanted to take the opportunity this week to express my appreciation for our Lee Health volunteers.
Lee Health is the grateful beneficiary of the service and support of a volunteer workforce committed to kindness and compassionate care. Volunteers work in almost every department in our hospitals and offices throughout our health system and community-based locations, in patient care and non-patient care areas. Whether our volunteers are working in a gift shop or uniform store, helping with clerical work, driving a trolley or helping transport patients, they make a difference and enrich the experiences of our patients, visitors and staff.
Many of our volunteers are patients or family members of patients who appreciate the care they have received and want to give back. Reba George is an example of one of our patients who decided to give back as a volunteer—you can meet her and hear her story by going to https://tinyurl.com/YTReba.
You do not need a medical or nursing background to volunteer at Lee Health—you need a desire to make a difference and help others. A few of our volunteers shared the reasons—their whys—for wanting to volunteer with us. You can visit https://tinyurl.com/YTVolunteers to hear from them, too.
We appreciate all the efforts, support, kindness and friendship of our volunteers. They are an integral part of our mission-driven team.
