Dr. Cherrie Morris Named Chief Physician and Operations Executive for Cape Coral Hospital

(Fort Myers, Fla. – Nov. 15, 2021) --- As a practicing physician with Lee Health for more than 20 years, Cherrie Morris, M.D., M.S., has been appointed as the new chief physician and operations executive for Cape Coral Hospital.

Morris will work alongside Candace Smith, Ph.D., RN, NEA-BC, chief nursing and operations executive, to provide leadership throughout Cape Coral Hospital. That includes ensuring overall quality of medical care while supporting a culture of performance, quality, service, accountability, and transparency for clinicians and staff across Cape Coral Hospital.

Morris has been a practicing obstetrician/gynecologist with Lee Health since 1998 and has served as system medical director for obstetrical services since 2019 and as lead physician for Lee Physician Group obstetrics and gynecology since 2014.

She has extensive experience with medical staff leadership and governance through the HealthPark Medical Center Medical Executive Committee, the Lee Health Credentialing/Privileging Committee, the Women’s Services Operational Council and the Lee Physician Group Governance Committee and Quality & Peer Review Committee.

“Cherrie has consistently showcased leadership in physician group management, patient care delivery, regulatory compliance, operations management and physician relations, and I am so excited to see all that she’ll accomplish in her new role as chief physician and operations executive for Cape Coral Hospital,” said Armando Llechu, chief officer hospital operations and women and children’s services. “We are excited to welcome her to this new chapter of her career.”

Morris earned her medical degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and her master of science in nutritional biochemistry from Rutgers University. She completed her residency at the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa.

Additionally, she is currently earning her American Academy of Physician Leaders Certified Physician Executive credential and is an alumni of the Physician Leadership Institute.

Morris began her new role on Nov. 8.
