Golisano Children’s Hospital Announces COVID-19 Vaccination Event for Kids

Press Releases

Posted:

(Fort Myers, Fla. – Nov. 10, 2021) --- In an effort to create additional access to the COVID-19 vaccine for children in Southwest Florida, Golisano Children’s Hospital is hosting a vaccination event, which will take place outside the main entrance of the children’s hospital.

The event will be Saturday, Nov. 13, from 9 a.m.-noon and will be tailored especially for kids.

Anyone 5 years-old and older who has not yet received their COVID-19 vaccine is encouraged to attend. Even though this event is focused on children, adults are welcome to come and also receive their COVID-19 vaccine if they haven’t already.

The vaccine offered at the event will be Pfizer, which is approved for use in those 5 years old and older, and will be administered Saturday as supplies last.

The COVID-19 vaccination event will be staffed with pediatric registered nurses to administer the vaccine, in addition to a paramedic, pharmacist and customer service team to assist in the process.

A special Pain Ease spray will be on-hand to put on the injection site to alleviate any discomfort or fear of needles that kids sometimes have. There will also be distraction items, like bubble wands, Play-Doh and other small toys that kids can play with to help take their mind off getting a shot.

After getting their COVID-19 vaccine, children will also get a special sticker.

“This is going to be a very child-friendly event, and we really want to encourage parents to bring their kids to get their COVID-19 vaccine. We are so excited this day is finally here and we are able to vaccinate even more children in Southwest Florida,” said Niki Shimko, supervisor for the pediatric critical care transport team at Golisano and leader of the mobile vaccination clinic. “The vaccine is safe and effective, and it’s the best tool we have to fight COVID-19.”

The event is walk-up only, and there is no cost for the vaccine. A parent or authorized guardian must accompany a minor for vaccination. The second dose will also take place at Golisano on Dec. 4.

In case families are unable to attend Saturday’s event, the Mobile Pediatric Vaccination Clinic will be making several stops throughout the region. Next week’s stops include:
