(Fort Myers, Fla. – Apr. 25, 2023) --- Lee Health is pleased to announce that the opening of the new permanent Dunbar Medical Office will be on Tuesday, April 25.

The new space will be in the building that will house the future downtown location of Next Level Church at 3637 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Fort Myers. It’s located just three blocks from the longstanding office that was destroyed by Hurricane Ian.

The new location is much larger than the original and includes expanded care offerings. In addition to adult health care services, the new Dunbar Medical Office now offers services for children, including vision and hearing tests. There will also be nutrition counseling and pharmaceutical advising available.

To celebrate the opening, Lee Health was joined by community members and local government officials at a press event that included a ribbon cutting of the new location and tours inside the medical office. About 100 people were in attendance.

“We are committed to caring for our community. Establishing a new, permanent location for the Dunbar clinic was extremely important to us because we want to make sure Dunbar residents have access to high-quality care and medical services in their own neighborhood,” said Kris Fay, chief officer of community based care. “The clinic’s expanded services will cover children and adults, providing care for the entire family and helping to ensure a healthy community.”

The new location will have four more exam rooms for a total of 10 and providers will be able to see more patients.

After the hurricane, Lee Health brought in a mobile unit to continue serving the Dunbar community. Now that the Dunbar Medical Office has announced its opening, patients will be able to smoothly transition to the new office for health care services.

“I have been a patient of the Dunbar clinic for many years and this new location will be a game changer for the community. My friends and neighbors will be able to access the medical care they need when they need it in a convenient and accessible location,” said longtime patient, Alice Daniels. “I’m excited to visit the new building. It’s going to make such a difference for the Dunbar community.”

Three new providers are joining the clinic’s two longstanding providers, Dr. James Belcher and Linda Mondragon, PA.

The Dunbar Medical Office is a part of Lee Community Healthcare. Lee Health created Lee Community Healthcare to provide primary medical care to the medically uninsured and economically distressed residents of Southwest Florida. The offices operate on a sliding fee scale based on household income for people who do not have insurance or who are underinsured.

Lee Community Healthcare has four family medicine locations, which are in Dunbar, North Fort Myers, Cape Coral and Lehigh Acres, two women’s health offices located in East and South Fort Myers, six pediatric primary care offices located in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Lehigh Acres, Bonita Springs and Port Charlotte, and one behavioral health office located in Fort Myers.

“Our friends in the Dunbar community deserve this new building, increased number of providers, expanded services and increased access to care,” said Bob Johns, executive director of Lee Community Healthcare. “We are thrilled to offer them access to high-quality health care in a beautiful new space and permanent location. We are also grateful to Next Level Church for sharing our vision to make this building a true community center with much-needed health care services at the forefront.” Anyone who is interested in becoming a patient at the new location can call 239-343-4910.
