At 5 feet, 8 inches tall, hailing from Barnesville, Minnesota, Dr. Kelsey Diemer is donning a Lee Health jersey, joining the Lee Health Musculoskeletal Institute, where she will specialize in primary care sports medicine. The former FGCU basketball star brings an important and specialized perspective to patient care for the Southwest Florida community.

Primary care sports medicine is non-surgical care that looks at healthcare for the active patient, including care for sports or activity-related injuries and illnesses of the musculoskeletal system and any underlying conditions that can affect a patient’s physical performance and overall health.

Dr. Diemer will also help athletes and non-athletes with injury prevention, safe ways to exercise, and building strength and conditioning. She will also offer ultrasound-guided injections, including orthobiologics like platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and more.

“Dr. Diemer will bring her expertise and experience to help elevate the musculoskeletal program here in Southwest Florida,” said Dr. Iahn Gonsenhauser, chief medical officer for Lee Health. “She is passionate about the non-operative treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, including shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, ankle, and foot injuries, and is excited to give back to her community. We know she will help position Lee Health as a state and national destination for orthopedic care and provide exceptional patient care to our families in our community.”

Thousands of people each day experience injuries to their musculoskeletal system or live with a chronic disorder that significantly impacts their quality of life. Expanding and enhancing the musculoskeletal medical services at Lee Health will help ensure optimal access to world-class healthcare for the Southwest Florida region.

With a focus on interdisciplinary collaboration, state-of-the-art technology, and high-value patient care, Lee Health musculoskeletal services include orthopedics, spine, arthritis and sports medicine.

Dr. Diemer received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, completed her residency in internal medicine at Naples Community Hospital and her fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine. Dr. Diemer was also a team physician for FGCU Athletics and an assistant team physician with the Florida Everblades.
