The Leapfrog Group released its Spring 2025 Hospital Safety Grades and three Lee Health hospitals have earned the highest accolades.

HealthPark Medical Center, Cape Coral Hospital and Lee Memorial Hospital all received an “A” grade with Gulf Coast Medical Center earning a “B Grade”, marking the 15th straight reporting period that all Lee Health Hospitals have received a grade of a “B” or higher.

HealthPark Medical Center earned an “A” grade for the 13th straight reporting period and Lee Memorial Hospital and Cape Coral Hospital kept their “A” streak going for the sixth consecutive reporting period. Since Fall 2018, Gulf Coast Medical Center has received an “A” in 10 reporting periods and has received a “B” four times.

“I am incredibly proud of the Lee Health team and their unwavering commitment to providing safe, high-quality care to our Southwest Florida community,” said Dr. Iahn Gonsenhauser, chief medical officer for Lee Health. “These top marks from The Leapfrog Group reflect the dedication and compassion our teams bring to patients every day. We are honored to serve this community and remain committed to continuously improving our already high standard of care.”

Registered Nurse Paul Anders works in the Intensive Care Unit at Cape Coral Hospital.

“The entire Cape Coral Hospital team is passionate about providing the best care possible to our community. We are excited to be recognized by The Leapfrog Group for so many years in a row,” Anders said. “We do this work because we enjoy caring for our patients and we want to see them live their best quality lives. Receiving this accolade is a bonus.”

The Safety Grade assigns letter grades of “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” and “F” to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, hospital-acquired infections and other harms. Every Lee Health hospital earned a raw score over 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to nearly 3,000 U.S. general acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Leapfrog Group’s grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. The data utilized for current grading is from the previous year’s reporting.

Children’s hospitals are not included in The Leapfrog Group’s Spring grades, but Golisano Children’s Hospital has been named a Top Children’s Hospital by The Leapfrog Group six times.
