Top of the Class: Four Lee Health Hospitals Earn “A” Grades for Patient Safety
For the Second Straight Reporting Period Cape Coral Hospital, Gulf Coast Medical Center, HealthPark Medical Center and Lee Memorial Hospital each received the highest possible grades for safe care
(Fort Myers, Fla. – Nov. 7, 2019) --- Patient safety is a top priority at Lee Health and, for the second straight report card, all four of its adult acute care hospitals have earned the highest national marks for safe care. Today, The Leapfrog Group announced its Fall 2019 Hospital Safety Grades, awarding Cape Coral Hospital, Gulf Coast Medical Center, HealthPark Medical Center and Lee Memorial Hospital each “A” grades; the highest possible ranking.
In addition to all four campuses receiving “A” grades, each hospital also improved its overall score from May’s report card.
“Every patient should feel confident they are receiving safe health care when they visit the hospital, and we are thrilled to not only repeat our ‘Straight A’ report card, but also improve our overall safety score at all four adult hospitals. This recognition demonstrates the amazing work our doctors, advanced providers, nurses and support staff do to provide safe and compassionate care,” said Larry Antonucci, M.D., MBA, Lee Health president and CEO. “Leapfrog is a national leader in driving quality health care and it is an honor to be recognized for our commitment to patient safety.”
Since 2000, The Leapfrog Group has promoted improved health care safety, quality and affordability in the United States through a commitment to transparency. The non-profit organization releases its hospital safety grades twice a year, rating hospitals on 27 measures of safety data. Only 32 percent of the approximately 2,500 acute care hospitals Leapfrog graded received an “A.” To earn a top grade, hospitals must receive a raw score of at least 3.151.
“‘A’ hospitals show us their leadership is protecting patients from preventable medical harm and error,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It takes genuine commitment at every level – from clinicians to administrators to the board of directors – and we congratulate the teams who have worked so hard to earn this A.”
