All Lee Health hospitals received honors as Best Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report for the high-quality care they provide to the Southwest Florida community.
For its 2024-2025 list, all Lee Health hospitals have been recognized as Best Hospitals with Golisano Children’s Hospital, HealthPark Medical Center and Lee Memorial Hospital ranking 13th in Florida and Gulf Coast Medical Center tying with a hospital in Gainesville for the 27th position.
The hospitals were selected from nearly 5,000 hospitals across the country, with only 38% earning any kind of award.
In this year’s rankings, Cape Coral Hospital earned a High-Performing rating in Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) procedures and conditions.
Gulf Coast Medical Center earned a High-Performing rating in congestive heart failure, COPD, heart attacks, hip replacements, knee replacements, pneumonia, and leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma.
Lee Memorial Hospital and HealthPark Medical Center together earned a High-Performing rating for the following adult procedures and conditions: aortic valve surgery, COPD, heart attacks, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, knee replacement, lung cancer surgery, pneumonia, strokes, and leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma.
For procedures and conditions, High Performing is the highest possible rating, earned by only a 10% to 20% of evaluated hospitals.
For more than three decades, U.S. News & World Report has provided Best Hospitals rankings to help patients find the best care when they need it most. The team analyzes millions of hospital visits and admissions to identify the best hospitals in 10 pediatric specialties, 15 adult specialties and 21 procedures and conditions.
“This recognition from U.S. News & World Report reaffirms Lee Health’s commitment to providing the highest quality of medical care to our patients,” said Larry Antonucci, M.D., president and chief executive officer of Lee Health. “This recognition validates the tireless work by our healthcare professionals to improve the health and wellbeing of our patients.”
Scores are based on each hospital's patient outcomes, including how well patients have fared after treatment, the quality of their experience and whether the hospital is adequately staffed. The Best Hospitals specialty rankings are determined by patients with life-threatening or rare conditions who need a hospital that excels in treating complex, high-risk cases.
The Best Hospitals procedure and condition ratings focus on specific and more commonly required individual procedures and conditions, such as hip replacement and heart failure, rather than on broader specialties like orthopedics and cardiology. The goal is to evaluate how well hospitals perform in each procedure or condition – not just with the most challenging cases, as with the specialty rankings, but with the full range of patients.
According to U.S. News, each hospital's performance is evaluated using a variety of measures, including data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and information from the American Hospital Association and professional organizations.
