Biography

Dr. Leandro Moraes earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and his fellowship in medical Oncology and Hematology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

In addition to his academic achievements, Dr. Moraes has been actively involved in clinical research on the topics of Multiple Myeloma and Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpes virus and has been involved in several quality improvments initiatives. He has also presented on topics such as Acute Myelogenous Leukemai and Acquired Hemolytic Anemia.

In his spare time, Dr. Moraes enjoys computer programming, electronics, motor racing, woodworking, gardening and travel. He is fluent in Portugeuse and coversational in Spanish.

Meet the Doctor

I'm Dr. Leandro Moraes. I'm a medical oncologist and hematologist here at Lee Health. And I am originally from Brazil, or my family is, and I was born in Chicago but grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. I joined Lee Health because I believed in the mission that Lee Health was trying to pursue here, which was providing excellent team-based care to the citizens, residents of Lee County. I chose the specialty of medical oncology and hematology, number one, because I grew up watching my father, who was also a medical oncologist and hematologist. I spent time as a teenager rounding with him in the hospital and shadowing him, and really being inspired by the patients that I saw and the impact they have on their lives. And then, of course, the specialty is very interesting to me. I was always interested in sciences, and I also like a mystery. And I feel like the specialty kind of incorporates both of those things. We're constantly using sort of cutting-edge technology, research, and always trying to figure things out still. It's a constantly evolving field. So when I'm not at work, I like to do several different things. I dabble a little bit in electronics and technology, so you may find me at home in front of the computer or messing with different electronics, doing things like 3-D printing, helping my wife with her miniature business. You can also catch me outside doing things like fishing, sailing, or even, despite the Florida heat, enjoying a hike out in the sun.

Dr. Moreas learned from my Keytruda nightmare and learned from it. He is spreading the word on the [ ] to other Drs in training and Drs working. He is helping so [ ] deaths do not always have to happen. He knows to keep a very watchful eye on his patients. I�m impressed when a Dr in a specialized field can learn and then teach others. Dr Moraes is so wonderful! He is only the second oncologist that is familiar with my [ ]. He listens to me and he has never made me feel unimportant or insignificant. He doest come in to the room in a rush. He's always calm takes his time which makes me calm. He’s very friendly and easy to talk to. I would recommend him to anyone that needs an oncologist. I am so thankful that another doctor referred me to him.
