Biography

Dr. Monika Arya is an extensively trained physician, originally from India where she received her medical education and completed a residency in medicine. She continued to train further in the US, completing another residency and a fellowship in Hematology & Oncology, gaining a wealth of experience.

Dr. Arya is an advocate for evidence-based medicine and strongly believes in educating patients and their families so they can serve as partners through their treatment. She has published several journal articles, has held several leadership positions, and has been involved in volunteer activities in the community by raising awareness of several health issues.

When not treating patients, Dr. Arya enjoys spending time with her family.

Meet the Doctor

Hello, I'm Monika Arya. I'm a physician in hematology-oncology. I am originally from India. I did my medical schooling and training in internal medicine there, then eventually moved to the U.S. for higher training, repeated a residency, followed by a fellowship in hematology-oncology, and I've been practicing the same for several years now. I was in Miami for a few years, and we came to southwest Florida for vacation, and I really, really liked the area, and was looking into this area to move on a permanent basis for a job, and eventually looked at Lee Health, really found that their principles and the care and cancer center jived well with my thought process, and I thought we would be mutually a wonderful fit, and that was the reason I came and joined here in late 2021. So early on in my life as a child, I had my first rush with oncology. My grandmother had a cancer for which she was on prolonged treatment for several, several years, and in the course of her illness, I came in touch with several oncologists, and the compassion that was involved in her care, the various aspects of life of a patient that they addressed, that really drew me into the field. So it was very early on in my school life that I was set that I was going to become a doctor and eventually an oncologist. So that was that. Once I joined Lee Health, I have really enjoyed working, and it only gets better every day. The team here that we have, the support system, the administrative staff that we have, they're just amazing. I can't tell you how much I look forward to coming to work on an everyday basis. My other favorite role is being a wife and a mom. So I have two children, school going, so majority of my life is outside work. It's taking care of them, their school, their after school activities and stuff. But I do enjoy in my free time, music, watching movies, basically relaxing, taking long walks, singing to some degree, though that has taken a back seat in the past few years. But yeah, those are the big ones.
