Meet the Doctor

(upbeat music) I am Rachel Wykes and I’m an OB/GYN in Cape Coral. So I’m from a small-town in Iowa, from a big family in a very small town, there were about 30 kids in my high school class. And grew up in a small family business in grocery stores actually so I still have ton of family back home. I have a lot of support, I’m the first one to go into medicine and I have a real passion for women’s health because of so many of my female relatives and friends that have gone through a lot of different things. Everything from you know if the normal pregnancies to infertility or cancers and complications of pregnancy and I really value walking into the office everyday and getting to treat my patients like my friend or cousin that I just talk to that’s back home. So I feel very personal connection to most of my patients because of that how close I am with all my family and community back home. I really became passionate about women’s health doing a lot of international travel and just seeing where that’s kind of where the root of a communities health kind of lies and if you can empower women, and educate women, and help them through their family planning phases of life then you can really make an impact on the community. So I decided to bite the bullet and go to medical school and here I am and I get... I love my job. I love going to work every day and still, still feel that passion that if you can take care of the women, that community health will follow. [Reporter off-camera what you want your patients to know about you?] I want them to know I’m just a down to earth person that really enjoys just connecting with each individual woman and taking care of them through each phase of life. When I’m not at work I spend as much time as I can with my sweet little baby girl Gracie and my husband Matt and we have been loving this nice weather down here we get outside as much as possible we’ve been getting into kayaking, and walking, and jogging, and just being outside. (upbeat music)

Her name was Tis and she was so upbeat and cheerful while she did her tasks to take [ ] and all. Her attitude calmed me down inside as I had never experienced what was happening with the [ ] before and I was concerned. We made small talk inbetween sharing my m edical history and we even laughed together about things of life. She is worthy of recognition, and so is the receiptionist who greets everyone - she was very patient and cheerful as she did her work. What a good place to come for your health care.
