Spending time outside, finding things to be grateful for, and complimenting others—they’re just a few of the lessons in the Lift Project. “The Lift program was designed by Dr. Darren Morton from Australia. He realizes how hard it is for people to leave work, be happy, and fit everything into life and be able to have coping mechanisms in place to really lead your best life,” explained Cheryl Schlichte, a healthy life center project manager with Lee Health.
Using science and positive encouragement, the 10-week program incorporates psychology, lifestyle medicine, and neuroscience to help people improve their mood.
“It has made so much difference I feel better rested, which makes my personality better; my mood is better. I’m better to be around; I’m happier.” After participating in the program, JL Watson immediately noticed the benefits of applying each lesson to both her personal and professional life. “To take a moment or two to either share a joke with a colleague or just do something nice for yourself or just things like that that we probably know we need to do but then we don’t and this program makes you stop and think about it, so I’m trying to incorporate that into my work life” she said.
Which means taking time to get up from your desk, go for a walk, and eat a healthy lunch. A positive experiment that's designed to lift people’s moods and improve their overall health.
