“She has tried everything, and she has stated that she didn’t get any relief, and I treated her, and she is pain-free,” it’s a common success story Lee Health’s acupuncturist Renee Sarra has with patients. “The number one reason people generally seek out an acupuncturist is for pain. Most of the time, I’m seeing patients that have had something chronic, or it’s been a last resort.”
Whether it’s a pain, allergies, migraines, insomnia, even anxiety and depression—Sarra says acupuncture can help. “One of the questions someone just asked me recently is, do I have to believe in it for it to work? The answer is no. Everybody is made up of the same chemicals. For 95 percent of the population, it does [work]. I’ve seen it work. It does work,” she said.
Acupuncture works by using tiny needles to stimulate the flow of blood and oxygen in the body. “In the style of acupuncture I use, it’s a gentle approach. The needles do not hurt,” said Sarra.
The needles stay in the body for about 20 minutes. Depending on the severity of the pain, it may take multiple treatments to feel the full benefits. “Your own body has its own healing mechanism. And the needle, made out of metal, helps create a micro tear in the system and this sends signals to the brain. It sends signals to the brain, and then the brain sends down hormone messengers and allows endorphins to come and then take the pressure out of that area,” she explained.
An alternative treatment that can help alleviate the pain throughout the entire body.
