After suffering a herniated disc, Denise Lindsay underwent two back surgeries. “When you try everything, everything and nothing works, you get so hopeless.”
But months after surgery, the pain still didn’t go away. “Since then, I tried everything possible, injections, I went to physical therapy, I tried different medications,” said Lindsay.
So her doctor recommended she try acupuncture—a technique that works by using small needles to help stimulate the blood and oxygen in the body. “We want to get a defined answer as to where exactly, how far is that pain traveling down the body? Is there also something else that might be attributed to that pain?” explained Renee Sarra, an acupuncturist with Lee Health.
Acupuncture is commonly used to treat pain, but it can also help to treat migraines, insomnia, and depression. “The brain sends down hormone messengers and allows endorphins to come and then take the pressure out of that area,” said Sarra.
Depending on the severity of the pain or condition, patients may need multiple treatments to feel the full benefit—but for Denise, she immediately started feeling results. “In the very first session, I left the office with no pain on my back,” Lindsay said.
A treatment option that can help patients return to their normal routine—pain-free.
