Evaluation for Conversion to a Private, Nonprofit Corporation

Changes to Enabling Legislation Provides Lee Health the Option of Changing Our Governance Status

For the first 50 years of Lee Health’s operation, the health system was a private nonprofit entity. In 1968, Lee Health began operating as an independent special healthcare district created by the Florida Legislature and governed by an elected Board of Directors.

Lee Health recently gained authority from the state legislature to review our governance structure to evaluate the potential benefits to the residents of Lee County of converting from a public health system back to a private nonprofit health system.

The Lee Health Board of Directors is reviewing the benefits to the residents of Lee County of converting our governance status, focused on keeping our health system local, strong and focused on delivering exceptional care to the people of Southwest Florida. We are, and will always remain, the safety net hospital for the residents of Lee County.

We will share more information along the way. If you have questions, email us at [email protected].
