As coronavirus continues to spread in our community, we must take bold steps to protect our patients and mitigate the risk of exposure to our staff. Lee Health surgeons have been voluntarily modifying their surgical schedules and are postponing some procedures. Surgeons are working with patients on a case-by-case basis to determine both short- and long-term implications of delaying any procedures. The decision to postpone a surgery is being made by the patient and his/her individual surgeon. We have seen a 50% decrease in elective surgeries in light of COVID-19.
The mobile collection site in Cape Coral, located at 1510 Sports Blvd., is opening Saturday and will be open 11 a.m.-3 p.m., seven days a week. Patients will need a physician order and appointment to have their specimen collected. The first mobile collection site at Lee Convenient Care on U.S. 41 near Page Field continues to run smoothly.
Dr. Larry Antonucci received a phone call from Governor Ron Desantis yesterday regarding Lee Health’s response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Gov. Desantis wanted to share his appreciation of the work we’re doing.

The American Red Cross has graciously stepped up to host two mobile blood drives in support of Lee Health. The drives will be held at 7051 Cypress Terrace, Suite 110 in Fort Myers on Saturday, March 21 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., and Sunday, March 22 from noon-4 p.m. Blood drives are not “mass gatherings,” rather controlled events conducted using appropriate infection control mechanisms intended to assure the safety of the products, donors and staff.
