What is Pulmonary Rehab?

Patient teamwork

At Pulmonary Rehabilitation, patients undergo an initial assessment to determine the level of their breathing difficulties and establish appropriate individual goals. The patient’s physician and our team work with the patient to design an individualized therapy program best suited to his or her needs.

**Diagnostic testing like pulmonary function test or electrocardiogram may be a mandatory requirement. This is based on insurance coverage requirements.**

The plan includes a personalized, progressive fitness routine during which we monitor heart, blood pressure and oxygen needs.

We also educate patients about their chronic lung diseases—whether it is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which includes emphysema, chronic bronchitis, and asthma, or pulmonary restrictive conditions such as fibrosis, sarcoidosis, scoliosis and others.

In addition to treatments and lifelong techniques, the team helps patients learn relaxation techniques and breathing exercises to help avoid feeling panicky.

We understand that it can be frightening not to be able to breathe properly. If you have difficulty breathing—shortness of breath, chronic colds, or persistent coughing—consider Pulmonary Rehabilitation at Lee Health. We are here to help.
