Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary Rehabilitation at Lee Health can help you breathe easier and live your best life.

The Pulmonary Rehabilitation team is a multidisciplinary group of therapists who can help you learn to cope with chronic lung diseases using some of the newest techniques and trusted methods.

The team’s goal is to help you achieve the highest level of health possible. Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a monitored exercise and education program that can last 6-12 weeks.

Patient teamwork

At Pulmonary Rehabilitation, patients undergo an extensive evaluation to determine the source of their breathing difficulties, which includes a pulmonary function test and possibly a pulmonary stress test. The patient’s physician and our team work with the patient to design an individualized therapy program best suited to his or her needs.

The plan includes a personalized, progressive fitness routine during which we monitor heart, blood pressure and oxygen needs.

We also educate patients about their chronic lung diseases—whether it is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which includes emphysema, chronic bronchitis, and asthma, or pulmonary fibrosis, which is scarring of the lungs.

In addition to treatments and lifelong techniques, the team helps patients learn relaxation techniques and breathing exercises to help avoid feeling panicky.

We understand that it can be frightening not to be able to breathe properly. If you have difficulty breathing—shortness of breath, chronic colds, or persistent coughing—consider Pulmonary Rehabilitation at Lee Health. We are here to help.

Better breathing, better life

  • Pulmonary Rehabilitation is at Lee Memorial Hospital and Cape Coral Hospital.
  • You need a referral from your physician to receive treatment.
  • A friend or family member is welcome to attend our education classes, which teach patients about breathing, such as how the lungs work, how to keep airways clear, details about specific conditions, and more.
  • Pulmonary Rehabilitation relies heavily on patient participation, as well as instructions and demonstrations by our multidisciplinary team.
