Distal Pancreatectomy and Pancreatosplenectomy
Lee Health: Pancreatic Center of Excellence
The Lee Health Cancer Institute is dedicated to providing advanced surgical procedures like distal pancreatectomy and pancreato-splenectomy to treat conditions affecting the body and tail of the pancreas. We bring together a multidisciplinary team for personalized for each patient. With cutting-edge technologies and a patient-centered approach, we strive to achieve the best outcomes for our patients.
About Distal Pancreatectomy
Distal pancreatectomy involves the removal of the body and/or tail of the pancreas, typically to the left of the blood vessels. In many cases, the spleen is removed at the same time (splenectomy) due to the close relationship between the spleen’s blood vessels and the pancreas. When appropriate, a spleen-preserving technique may be used to maintain spleen function.
With the growing use of advanced imaging, more pancreatic lesions are being detected early, often before symptoms develop. These smaller lesions are more likely to be treated successfully with surgery, offering patients a better chance at recovery and improved quality of life.
Minimally Invasive Techniques for Faster Recovery
Our surgeons are highly skilled in minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques for distal pancreatectomy. This approach allows for smaller incisions, reduced discomfort, and faster recovery times, helping patients return to their daily lives more quickly.
Our surgical oncology surgeons and specialists provide advanced cancer care close to home, using the latest techniques to deliver personalized treatment. Our goal is to help patients thrive with high-quality care, right here in Southwest Florida.
