The U.S. census, which takes place every 10 years, may seem like just another form to fill out – but your participation helps ensure funding for many essential programs in Lee County and Southwest Florida.
Did you know:
Because of an undercount in 2010, Florida missed out on nearly $200 million? Please complete your census online between March and April 1, 2020, and help our community get federal funding necessary to support 16 vital programs:
- Medicaid
- Medicare part B
- Supplemental nutrition assistance program (SNAP)
- Highway Planning and Construction
- Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers
- Title I Grants to Local Education Agencies
- National School Lunch Program
- Special Education Grants (IDEA)
- State Children’s Health Insurance (S_CHIP)
- Head Start/Early Head Start
- Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
- Section 8 Housing Assistance Payments Program
- Health Center Programs (Community, Migrant, Homeless, Public Housing)
- Foster Care (TITLE IV-E)
- Child Care Development Fund Entitlement
- Low Income Home Energy assistance (LIHEAP)
With only 74% counted in 2010, Florida missed $946 for every Floridian that wasn’t counted. With only 66% counted in Ft. Myers, $20 million annually in federal funding was lost. Lets not let that happen again!
